Singel Consulting is a Dutch-American consulting firm specializing in research design, data analysis, and research methodology training. With global expertise, particularly in the Middle East and Africa, it provides tailored research studies and trainings for clients ranging from national governments to local civil society organizations. Dr. Elizabeth L. Young (Owner & Consultant) is a political and cultural sociologist with more than fifteen years of experience conducting research and training others on research methodology. She specializes in multi-method analyses of complex political and social situations, such as democratization, nationalism, religion & politics, and violent extremism. Her global experience includes work conducted in Kenya, Tunisia, Uganda, and Yemen and she has published on a range of topics including Tunisia’s democratic transition, electoral politics, gender equality, and violent extremism. She was the Research Director for the British High Commission’s East Africa research program on understanding and preventing violent extremism where she designed and oversaw research among at-risk populations in Kenya and Uganda. As a practitioner, she has served as an international elections observer for a number of NGOs and has also worked for the National Democratic Institute on electoral and democratization work in their Washington, DC; Tunisia; and Yemen offices. She holds degrees from the University of Michigan (Ph.D., M.A., Sociology) and Haverford College (B.A., Religion) and was a Visiting Doctoral Fellow at Harvard University and the University of Sydney’s Electoral Integrity Project.
